Welcome to the inaugural blog post on my website! I am Dr. Veronica Gillispie-Bell, and I am thrilled to embark on this journey with you, where we will delve into empowering women through knowledge about maternal health. As a board-certified OBGYN with a passion for women's health, my journey into this field began with a pivotal moment during my junior year in college. Witnessing my mother's struggle with fibroids and the limited treatment options available ignited a determination in me to specialize in obstetrics and gynecology. I vowed to find better solutions for conditions like fibroids, ensuring that women have more choices and better outcomes.
Throughout my clinical practice, I have remained committed to advocating for women's health and ensuring they have access to comprehensive treatment options. My dedication stems not only from professional expertise but also from personal experiences. As a Black woman, I have encountered firsthand the disparities and challenges within the medical system, particularly during pregnancy. A poignant example occurred when I experienced severe abdominal pain during a business trip, only to be misdiagnosed initially. It was only through the advocacy of a colleague back home that I received the correct diagnosis and appropriate treatment for preterm labor, significantly impacting my son’s outcome.
This blog series aims to empower women by providing accessible information on maternal health topics, discussing common concerns, exploring treatment options, and sharing stories of resilience and advocacy. Together, let's navigate the complexities of maternal health, celebrate the strength of women, and empower each other through knowledge and support. Stay tuned for insightful articles that aim to inform, inspire, and elevate the conversation around women's health and maternal care. Together, we can make a difference in empowering women to make informed decisions and achieve optimal health outcomes.
